Electric cars lose that much range in winter

Winter affects the range of electric cars. But while some models only lose a little range, others have to struggle a lot more with cold temperatures. In our weekly ranking, we show you which electric cars lose the most range in winter.

Even if both combustion engines and electric cars lose range in winter, electric cars are increasingly struggling with the cold temperatures. This is because cold increases the internal resistance within the batteries, thereby reducing capacity at the same time.

Electric cars lose that much range in winter

In order to advance electromobility, the platform is investigating Recurrent Auto transparent data on e-cars, but also shows their limits. In the course of this, the US company compared 700 electric cars with each other and analyzed their loss of range in winter.

The basis for the investigation is the range in winter and summer temperatures, with winter temperatures between minus one degree Celsius and minus six degrees Celsius and the reference temperature at 21 degrees Celsius. In the following ranking, we show you the ten electric cars that lose the most range in winter.

10th place: Jaguar I-Pace

Tenth place goes to the Jaguar I-Pace. Thus, this model performs best in the ranking because only a loss of three percent the range is available.
