Elden Ring: Solve patches quest line (Walkthrough/German)

Patches is a true legend in Souls games, and you can also meet him in Elden Ring to complete a multi-part questline with him. In the walkthrough we explain how you can kill patches or finish your quest to the end.

Find patches & unlock them as a retailer

You can meet patches very early in the game. Go to the Murky River Cave, the entrance to which is on the river bed north of Lake Agheel in Limgrave.

Keep right in the cave until you come to a large area with a chest in the middle. Open it and loot the Cloth Clothes and Cloth Pants from the chest. Patches will then appear and the boss fight against him will start.

As soon as you have drained more than 50% of his life energy from patches, he will surrender. Then stop attacking him when you want to accept his quest. If you keep hitting him, he’ll become aggressive again.

If you speak to Patches after his quest, he will ask your forgiveness. It doesn’t matter how you answer here, because he remains friendly in any case.

A notice: If you want to learn another gesture, attack Patches 3 times to make him aggressive again. Then let him reduce your life energy until he offers you to stop if you beg for mercy. Then use the Gesture “Beg for mercy” and listens to his dialogue to automatically select the Extreme Repentance Gesture to learn. Use this gesture before Patches kills you to make him friendly again.

To unlock patches as a vendor, use the teleport point in the boss room to be teleported back to the cave entrance. Then head straight back to Patches and speak to him to access his range of goods. He sells some useful items such as weapons, manuals and stone sword keys.

Open patches chest or not?

In addition to patches, a new chest has now also appeared. You can address patches on the chest and then decide for yourself whether you want to open it or not. The chest is a transporter trap that will teleport you to the cloud forest further east. Beware of the Runebear standing near you!

Then return to Patches to get the reward Gesture “Calm down!” to obtain. You can still access his shop.

A notice: If you have assigned patches, you can now optionally meet them at other locations in the game world. If you have already spoken to Tanith and joined House Vulcan, these optional quest steps will be skipped and you can go straight to the House Vulcan paragraph.

Patches at Picturesque Isle

Next time you can patches right next to the place of grace “Picturesque Island” in Liurnia meeting. Sitting around a campfire, he recommends that you allow yourself to be devoured by the iron damsel on the ground beneath the large elevator mechanism in the Raya Lucaria Academy.

This will teleport you to the torture chambers below Haus Vulkan. This is a way to get to the Altus Plateau quickly. However, the exit to the plateau is blocked by a boss fight in which you must defeat two iron maidens at once. This is a real challenge early on in the game and not highly recommended.

Patches in Gelmir

After entering the Altus Plateau for the first time, Patches moves on to Gelmir. Here he is sitting beside a rock that serves as a makeshift bridge to the area to the north. You can either approach here via the Bridge of Sin in the east and then climb up a ladder by the cliff on the left, or you can walk counter-clockwise around the volcano to approach the elevated area to the south.

Talk to Patches, then follow the trail of glowing rocks. The third stone is close to the cliff. As soon as you get close, a cutscene will trigger and Patches will push you off.

Patches in house volcano

After you’ve joined House Vulcan and completed the first bounty for Tanith, talk to Patches in the hallway after the entryway. Exhaust all his dialogues and you will get the “Letter to Patches”. You must now complete his bounty quest and kill the great horned Tragoth.

To do this, interact with the red exclamation mark that you can see on the floor in the Magma Wyvern boss room. You will automatically pass this boss if you Ruined abyss traversed. You can reach this via the gorge on the ground in Liurnia. Just follow the northern foothills of the lake and you’ll come straight to it.

Kill Tragoth and return to Patches. Exhaust his dialogues, then rest at the Place of Mercy in the other room and speak to Patches again (“What will I get as a reward?” dialogue) to have him give you the Magma Lash Chandelier weapon.

After killing Rykard at the end of House Vulcan, Patches leaves and moves on.

Patches in the Schattenburg

Next, Patches sits hurt just before the boss portal at the end of the Schattenburg in the north of the Altus Plateau.

Exhaust all dialogues with him and you will get them “Dancer’s Castanets” by him. You can give this to Tanith from House Vulcan, but it doesn’t seem to have any significant effect. Also note that you can easily kill Patches here, even if you only hit him once with one hit.

complete quests

Patch’s quest ends where it began. So go back to the Murky River Cave in Limgrave. He meets you here as the first time as a boss, but he will surrender directly after the first attacks on your part and you will receive his Patches crouch gesture.

This completes his quest. Unfortunately, you can no longer access his goods from this point on, unless you kill him and give his sound bead to the Twin Maiden Husks in Round Table Keep. If you haven’t already, you can now also get the “Extreme Repentance” emote (see first hint box above).
