Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni: Field report after four weeks
With the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni has Ecovacs Robotics recently presented a new vacuum and floor mopping robot. The device promises many small features, but is significantly more expensive than that Competitor. Is the price worth it? We tested the new vacuum robot from Ecovacs.

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni in the test: scope of delivery and setup
Of the Ecovac’s Depot X1 Omni comes in a large package consisting of two large boxes. The robot itself is in one of them, the suction station in the other. The construction is quite quick: free the robot and station from the many adhesive strips, assemble them and plug the cable into the station.

After that, the app has to be set up, because the Deebot needs an initial update. The application then suggests that the robot take an apartment tour to create a map. It automatically recognizes rooms and obstacles.
The map can also be edited manually. This can be particularly advantageous if a room has two areas and only one of them should be wiped.
Ecovacs also touts its Yiko voice assistant, which can be controlled via built-in microphones and speakers. This even works quite well, so that the Deebot also wipes and vacuums specific rooms.
Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni: The robot can do that
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is a real high-tech robot because it handles almost the entire vacuuming and wiping process automatically. This can be started either by an assistant, by pressing a button on the suction station or by app.
While the push of a button starts the “automatic routine”, only a specific area can be vacuumed and wiped using the assistant or app.
In the app you can configure the process down to the last detail. Should be wiped once or twice? How much should be vacuumed or wiped? Should it be generally wiped deeper, or only in certain areas?
In what order should the rooms be wiped? The app offers many settings that are housed in a clear menu.

It is also possible to integrate the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni into the Google Home app. However, the settings are not exactly extensive. It is therefore more worthwhile to set a routine in the Ecovacs app, because there you can set the time, day of the week and also a complete cleaning or cleaning in certain areas.
Deebot X1 Omni: How does the vacuum and mopping process work?
In the past four weeks I have sent the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni through the apartment three to four times and followed the process closely. The suction robot does not get into every corner, but a straight edge is driven along. The mops are meanwhile at a distance of five centimeters from the wall, i.e. do not come to the edge.
Nevertheless, the Deebot ensures a remarkable suction and wiping performance in everyday life. We sent the robot over both wood and tiled floors. Around 90 percent of the dirt was gone after vacuuming. The device reliably removed dust and dirt, especially on the tiled floor.

Dirt and grime end up in a disposable bag. This has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage: allergy sufferers do not come into contact with dust. The disadvantage: the bags have to be reordered and the manufacturer charges for this.
The Deebot also sucks up dirty water completely. The same applies to fresh water. This will be refilled during the cleaning. The robot drives back to the station in between. After cleaning, the containers can be easily removed from the station and refilled.
After mopping, the station heats the mops with warm air and dries them. The time – between two and four hours – can be configured in the app. The station doesn’t get too loud, but a quiet hum is audible.

During our tests, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni recognized obstacles well. Even a step down was not a problem. Otherwise it could have ended badly. The vacuum and floor mopping robot also moves around objects such as shoes or chairs. But he likes to suck up thin cables.
Small gimmicks that no one needs
However, the X1 Omni also has a few functions that are more of a gimmick than a useful everyday helper. For example, the app can access the camera feed. So anyone who has always wanted to watch their robot at work can do so.
The robot can then also be controlled using virtual joysticks. The only reason could be to use the robot as a “moving security camera” or to check whether the door or window has been closed. Or: More of a gimmick.

It is even possible to send the robot to a location via an app or to have it “patrol” according to a plan. The nice thing about it is that the image quality is very high – even in poor lighting conditions. If you want, you can also connect to the robot by telephony and then “make a call”.
Again, the quality is surprisingly good. However, I also question the purpose of this function. The video feed can in turn be secured with a four-digit code, if the account data is compressed, attackers cannot look directly into a potential victim’s home.
battery life
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni has a 5200 mAh battery that charges from 0 to 100 percent in 6.5 hours. A normal vacuuming process on our ground floor (approx. 60 square meters) uses around ten percent of the battery life.
However, the robot then recharges itself automatically. Meanwhile, a suction and wiping process consumes around 15 percent of the battery, although two of our rooms were not wiped (wooden floor). If the battery is completely empty, continue the process after charging.
Ecovac’s Deebot X1 Omni: Conclusion
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is an absolute luxury product. This is also illustrated by the price of around 1,300 euros. If you don’t need all the functions by a long shot, you can use cheaper models.
Ecovacs, for example, also offers cheaper models. But if you really want to get the most out of a vacuum cleaning robot, you will get an absolute flagship product with the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni.
