Solar generators have become increasingly popular in recent months due to the energy crisis and fears of power outages. EcoFlow is one of the best-known providers of such power stations with rechargeable batteries, which can be charged anywhere using solar panels. Older models now lose a function for security reasons.

EcoFlow removes feature with software update

More and more people are buying or have already bought solar generators in order to be able to produce at least some electricity in the event of a blackout. The devices are also really useful. I recently tested the River 2 Pro from EcoFlow and used it in the office as a UPS and as a battery for my balcony power station. If you have an older EcoFlow solar generator, you will receive a version with the next software update that Use as a UPS no longer possible.

“In the event of an error, there is a risk of an electric shock when operating in the so-called UPS operating mode. In order to eliminate the danger, a firmware update must be carried out via the EcoFlow APP”, such a dealer (source: Caschy).

The following EcoFlow models are affected:

  • River Mini (Item No. 99022)
  • River Mini Wireless (Item No. 99025)
  • River (Item No. 79295)
  • River Max (Item No. (79296)
  • River Pro (Item No. 79297)
  • Delta Mini (Item No. 97350)

So these are older models, which are now being deprived of a function by the software update. Normally, the UPS function should hardly be used anyway, since most people tend to use the power stations when they are out and about to provide power independently of the mains. But I set it up the same way with the new generation and let my PC and all other devices run on the River 2 Pro. It remains to be hoped that the function will not be removed there as well. For your own safety, you should of course install the software update.

EcoFlow Smart Generator (Dual Fuel) introduced

EcoFlow Smart Generator (Dual Fuel) introduced

However, EcoFlow does not only rely on batteries and the sun, but recently introduced the EcoFlow Smart Generator (Dual Fuel), a power generator that runs on gas or petrol. This can be combined with the solar generators and thus ensure a much more secure power supply.
