Earrings for children under four years old: this is what you think
Where one mother has holes popped on her newborn baby, the other prefers to wait until the teenage years. What do you think of earrings for children under four years old? We asked with a statement on Facebook.
A small selection of the reactions.
Earrings in children
- Miriam: “Until the age of 12 (or 16 actually) children are not able to make a responsible choice anyway. So whether you do it at 3 months or 6 years…. They may think differently years later. So everyone can do what they feel good about. I think there is something to be said for both sides.”
- Rebecca: “Parents should know for themselves… done here with our daughter, she’s 20 now and she doesn’t need therapy, is not angry and disappointed with her parents and is happy with the cavities.”
- Astrid: “People should decide that for themselves and others don’t have to think so, because it’s none of their business.”
- Aisha: “My daughter was 3 months old when she got them, she has never had any problems and she is very happy with them.”

- Amy: “My daughter was 6 weeks old when I dropped them on her. The advantage of this is that they get so little of it and they are not constantly on it. She is now almost 6 and a few months ago she decided that she wanted a second hole. Nice girl that I like. But every parent should know for themselves how to do that.”
- Marlous: “Everyone should know for themselves. Our little girl is 4 months and I can’t bear to think about it. But to each his own…”
- Linda: “I think everyone should know that for themselves. We don’t like each other so much already. Let’s respect each other for who we are, regardless of whether or not you support a choice.”
- Albertine: “We let our daughter decide for herself. She was 2.5 when she started talking about it. I said she could ask for it for her birthday, assuming she might have forgotten it. But she persevered, so it was a great birthday present and she was and still is very happy with her cavities!”
