Dutch U-Boat Worx builds luxury yacht Nautilus that can be submerged
The Dutch shipyard U-Boat Worx is working on a concept that could come from Jules Verne’s 20,000 Miles Under the Sea. A luxury yacht, Nautilus, that can also sail under water and that allows you to follow in the footsteps of Captain Nemo.
The advantages of a submarine
We know less about the deep sea than about the surface of, for example, Mars. That’s because sunlight doesn’t penetrate the ocean water more than a few hundred meters deep. Are you going deeper? Then there is the eternal darkness. That is why the deep sea always exerts a great attraction on curious people.
And there are even more advantages of a submarine. Under water you are safe from storms and pirates. And, increasingly relevant these days, for wars where your submarine will hopefully not be targeted.
U-Boat Worx Nautilus, the history
U-Boat Worx has been around since 2005. The Breda-based shipyard builds small submarines for specialist purposes. For example, they have a model, the Nemo, that is suitable for taking with you independently or on board a yacht and exploring the underwater world along the way.
With this they achieved the necessary success and that left us wanting more. For example, they have already developed a swimming pool for wealthy customers, which is also a landing bay for U-Boat Worx submarines.
The Nautilus: the underwater luxury yacht
The Nautilus can be used above water, as a yacht, as well as underwater. The cabin can withstand the water pressure up to 200 m depth, with which you can reach a large part of the ocean floor on the continental shelf. Large portholes allow you to enjoy the underwater view from anywhere, even when the yacht is not diving.
Do you use the yacht above water? Then you can enjoy an extensive sundeck with an attractive dining room, including a large freshwater swimming pool. All of this collapses the moment you get ready to explore the depths. Will the storm last, or do you want to wait until those pesky press mosquitoes have finally taken to the sea? You can stay underwater for up to four days. All this will be yours for the mere amount of €25 million or more.
In short: Jules Verne would certainly have been impressed. Are you a little adventurous rich man, who dreams of a career as a super villain, or wants to step into the shoes of Captain Nemo? Then this yacht is much more interesting than the umpteenth trite superyacht.
