‘Due to high inflation, fewer children attend sports and music lessons’
The Youth Fund Sport & Culture is afraid that parents will cut back on sports and music clubs for their children because of the high inflation.
According to the fund, an average of two to three children per class are already unable to play football in a club or take guitar lessons due to financial problems.
Campaign
Due to the high prices, this number is expected to increase. Under the heading ‘choose a club’, the Youth Fund therefore started a campaign on Monday to draw attention to the fact that the fund may be able to pay the membership or contribution for families who cannot do this themselves.

According to the fund, daily life was 13.6 percent more expensive in August 2022 compared to the previous year. “We understand that people have to keep their budget,” says Monique Maks, director of Youth Fund Sport & Culture. “With our help, we can ensure that children can simply go to their clubs. We hope that more people will find their way to us, so that children don’t have to miss out on their sport and culture.”
Self confidence
The Youth Fund pays the contribution or tuition directly to the sports or cultural club of which the child becomes a member. “At a club you make friends, you gain essential skills, children learn to consider each other, they gain confidence and they forget their worries. And above all they have fun, together with other children. That’s why club membership is so important,” says Maks.
The campaign will run from Monday 5 to Friday 30 September.
