Google comes with a new hidden feature in the Play Store. If your phone is online for a while, you can temporarily play one of the three available offline games.

Now that we are talking about hidden functions in the Play Store, you might think of the new Google Play Points with which you can now also get extra discount in the Netherlands. We are not talking about that this time. What matters are three games you will see when your phone is offline.

Previously, in the Play Store you only got the option ‘Try again’ or you could ask to receive a notification when your phone is connected again. Google is now introducing a new section called ‘Play while you wait’. Next you will see the three games Hot Air Balloon, Solitaire and Snake.

The hidden games in the Play Store

The latter two games are probably familiar to you, and they have been part of Google Play Games for some time now. Hot Air Balloon is a simple game where you control a balloon by swiping left and right across the screen. This way you avoid all kinds of obstacles that will burst your balloon. The game is very reminiscent of Google’s famous game that shows Chrome when you are offline. You know, that game with the dino jumping over obstacles.

The hot air balloon game was discovered in the Play Store code last year by reverse engineering expert Jane Wong, but it is only now available to users for the first time. You can easily discover the games by temporarily putting your phone in airplane mode and visiting the Play Store.
