If you have asked yourself what else can be done or improved on a gimbal for the smartphone, the Osmo Mobile 5 has the answer. It offers the usual gimbal functions and extends them with a 210mm long telescopic selfie stick.

What not only sounds strange at first but also looks to be used to, turned out to be a useful further development in our test.

Newcomers to videography can rely on the new ShotGuides function, which offers up to 30 different recording tutorials, also processes videos completely automatically and transforms them into a sophisticated cinematic experience. The new ActiveTrack 4.0 now supports tracking with up to 3x zoom and up to 5 m / s and detects and tracks the subject precisely in the center of the image, even during rapid camera movements. Other professional functions and pre-programmed modes for breathtaking recordings are:

• • Gesture control: With the gesture control of the DJI OM 5, you can easily start and stop video recordings or take photos. This is perfect for impressive selfies or group shots and works without any tricky self-timer.
  • DynamicZoom: This is an interesting movie effect popularized by Alfred Hitchcock. The DJI OM 5 automatically adjusts the zoom to create dramatic visual distortion.

Useful accessories for even more variety

The new magnetic mobile phone clamp (with integrated additional light) can provide photos and videos with the perfect light effect and is an indispensable accessory for the DJI OM 5. There are other useful accessories for the DJI OM 5, including a wristband, a handle stand and a storage bag .

The selfie stick function turned out to be a useful addition in our test. Especially when you are filming alone with the gimbal.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 5 has also got another function button, which makes operation even easier compared to its predecessor.

The smaller bigger one makes the DJI Osmo Mobile 5 much more interesting for use in the hobby or on vacation.

Unfortunately, the battery has shrunk significantly compared to the Osmo Mobile 5. According to the DJI, the 1,000 mAh should still last for 6 hours, which should be more than sufficient for most. If you haven’t owned the Osmo Mobile 4, you won’t even notice the shorter battery life.

For € 149, the price / performance ratio is absolutely okay in my opinion. The 49 € for the Fill Light are especially well invested for those who want to work a little more professionally.
