DJI Mini 3: Low Cost Drone Now Revealed
DJI can pack more and more electronics into less and less mass. That explains the impressive performance of the DJI Mini 3 (€579), which can also achieve professional performance with a mass of less than 249 g.
DJI Mini 3, impressive flight performance
Despite its small size, this drone can write some impressive achievements to its name. For example, the drone is able to reach a height of up to 3 to 4 km and take off at a speed of 5 m/s. The horizontal speed is also quite high, at 16 m/s.
This means that this drone could keep up with a moped rider with some effort. Is there wind? Then the drone can compensate for this up to a speed of 10.7 m/s. A maximum flight distance of 18-25 km fits here. The transmission range of the transmitters is around 4-6 km. The DJI Mini 3 can use both GPS and GLONASS satellite navigation. Less strong is the lack of more advanced obstacle detection. For that, it is wiser to buy the Pro edition.
The drone is able to stay in the air for just over half an hour to 45 minutes (with a Plus battery). Do you buy an additional battery pack plus other accessories (total price in that case € 768)? Then you can exchange the empty battery for a full one and use the drone three times as long. The charging time of an empty battery is around one and a half hours.
Camera performance reaches professional level
The resolution with which the camera can record still images and video images is high. With a maximum resolution for photos of 4000 x 3000 pixels, the camera can film at 30 frames per second at 4K and 60 frames per second at 2.7K video resolution.
The DJI Mini 3 is also equipped with a gimbal, which keeps the image stable, even during flight. The drone can film up to an angle of 40 degrees. More specifications can be found here.
Conclusion DJI Mini 3 review
With this compact, powerful and yet affordable DJI Mini 3 drone, DJI puts a powerful competitor in the market, where other drone manufacturers such as Autel can take an example. This versatile drone is especially interesting for more adventurous holidaymakers, hobby photographers and people with a YouTube channel.
Both novice drone pilots and more demanding professionals will enjoy this affordable drone. Do you think obstacle detection is important? Then you better go for the more expensive Pro edition.
