Disturbance at Telekom hinders home office workers
Deutsche Telekom struggled with a major disruption on Thursday. Apparently, Microsoft products in particular are affected by the failures.
Punctually at the beginning of the working day at around 8:30 in the morning, there were increasing reports that the telecommunications network was affected by a widespread failure. At the portal Dysfunction pointed out to users that they were mainly struggling with WiFi problems. VPN connections also appeared to have been affected. Connection problems to the Office 365 services were also increasingly reported. With Teams and Onedrive, other Microsoft services were affected. In the meantime, a few users reported that the connection was back, even if only temporarily and unstable.
The Telekom Twitter account confirmed the problems. Above all, the Microsoft web services via Telekom access are impaired. Fixed line customers cannot currently use Microsoft services. The error analysis is already running at full speed and in some cases, according to Telekom, restarting the router can help to fix the problem.

Cause and duration not yet clarified
There are many indications that the fault lies somewhere in the network connection between the Telekom servers and the Microsoft servers. That would at least explain why nearly all Microsoft services are affected by the outage. Again Spiegel reports, it is currently not yet clear what the trigger for this large-scale problem was.
Telekom has not yet commented on when the problem will be resolved. For many customers who are in the home office, this is the worst possible time for such a failure. Many of the angry users let their anger run free via Twitter and in the comment column of downdrafts.
