Disney + disappointed with advertising subscription: many popular films hidden

After Netflix, Disney+ is now offering a cheaper subscription with ad breaks. Under certain circumstances, customers can no longer access some popular movies and series here. According to Disney, this has to do with protecting children.

Another Disney+ subscription is now available in the US. Anyone who can live with commercial breaks pays Disney+ Basic $7.99 each month. Disney+ Premium without ads is $10.99 per month after a price increase. An introduction of the advertising subscription in Germany and other countries is planned for 2023.

Disney+: advertising subscription hides films for children

Shortly after the launch of the new subscription, it is already clear that not all customers have access to the full Disney+ catalog at all times. Users noticed that some content just doesn’t show up anymore, when a child profile is activated. However, the missing films and series are not aimed at an adult audience.

According to user reports are calculated popular animated films at Disney+ Basic can no longer be found. This includes all Toy Story films and the Cars series, but also the first part of “Frozen” alongside “The Big Crawl”, “Monster AG” and “Cinderella”. Disney: No advertising for children’s films

When announcing the advertising-supported subscription, Disney already explained that it no commercial breaks for children’s films will give. In general, however, it was assumed that the films would simply run without advertising. Disney + apparently sees it differently and disables access when a child profile is active.

Disney had already noticeably reduced the catalog of children’s profiles at the beginning of 2021. Here, however, no commercial breaks were given as a reason. Rather, the concern was Films with stereotypes about certain cultures no longer want to offer. These included, for example, “The Jungle Book” and “Aristocats”.
