Diablo 4: Forsaken the Mother solve

In the quest “Renounce the Mother” it is your task to renounce the antagonist Lilith. However, the mission description does not make it very clear how you can do this. We tell you what you have to do.

Lilith, daughter of Mephisto and niece of Diablo herself, has sinister plans that bring disaster to Sanctuary. Your task is to thwart these plans, but first you must reveal your attitude towards Lilith’s statue in a small side quest called “Renounce the Mother”.

Renounce the Mother: Start and solve the quest

The Renounce the Mother quest is unlocked by interacting with a torn note found in the Tusmaa Trench of the Dry Steppe located. This is a small area that can be found in western Sanctuary (east of Ked Barou) just in front of a rock. In the note it is written: “At the foot of the massive statue at the hidden shrine, shout out to the world, ‘That’s not my mother'”.

Finding the statue isn’t too difficult as the mission marker will direct you to it immediately. On your way you will encounter legions of demons that respawn at relatively short intervals. So you have to be prepared for some resistance. As soon as you reach the cave, you can already see the statue. She is caught in a cone of light and surrounded by smaller sculptures that could represent succubuses.

However, there are no interaction options within the cave. Similar to the side quest “Preserve the Ancient Traditions” you have to choose an appropriate emote. Open the selection wheel on the PC with the “E” key or on the controller by pressing the directional pad up. The emote you are looking for is “No”. It is not in the selection wheel by default.

So first select “Customize” and then look for the appropriate vocabulary in the list. Add “No” to the selection wheel, stand in front of the statue and say it. A crate, the “Heretic’s Stash” will appear next to you. Loot the chest to complete the quest and earn 20 Dry Steppe Renown as well.
