Details of the successor to the flagship Snapdragon 888 processor have been leaked
Not so long ago, Qualcomm introduced the flagship Snapdragon 888 processor. Its successor, model number SM8450, is not expected to be introduced until the end of the year, but leaks about its specifications have appeared on the Internet this week. The Android Authority portal informed about the news.
The first leaks about the new chipset appeared in March. According to them, the processor was code-named “Waipio”, after the Waipi’o Valley in Hawaii. Another leak revealed that Qualcomm was testing a new chip along with 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of UFS storage.
Snapdragon SM8450: 4nm manufacturing process, enhanced 5G and image processor optimized by Leica
What the new Qualcomm chip that will power the flagship phones in 2022 will be revealed by tipper Evan Blass. The exact name of the new processor is not yet known, but it is reportedly given the model number SM8450. This was to be expected as the Snapdragon 888 model number is SM8350.
Qualcomm will reportedly move from a 5nm manufacturing process to 4nm, which should guarantee better performance and better power optimization of the new chipset. The chip is also expected to receive a new integrated Snapdragon X65 5G modem, which promises a maximum download speed of up to 10 Gb / s, and should offer a more stable 5G connection.
The graphics and image processor will also be improved. The Adreno 730 and Spectra 680 models should be used. The image processor is said to have been labeled “Leica 1”, indicating that the new chip will be optimized by leading Leica camera manufacturers. The leaks also point to the use of the Kryo 780 CPU, which is built on the new Arm v9 architecture.
