Deleting an Amazon account: step-by-step instructions

Do you want to delete your Amazon account? In our step-by-step instructions we will show you how this works.

Prices are currently rising in many areas of daily life. And Amazon doesn’t stop there either. Because less than a month ago it was announced that the US group was increasing the minimum order value for free shipping.

This is just one possible reason that could prompt one or the other to separate from their account with the shipping giant. But how can you delete your Amazon account? We’ll show you how in our step-by-step guide.

What should be considered when deleting the Amazon account?

If you want to delete your account on Amazon, you can easily request this from the US company. You can also arrange for the deletion of data that the company has collected about you.

However, the corporation does not remove all data that it has stored for you. After closing an account, Amazon assesses “what information should be preserved”. There are legal reasons for this, among other things. Transaction data remains stored, including your name, the products ordered, the order date and the delivery address.

However, before you decide to delete your Amazon account, you should check your subscriptions. For example, if your subscription to Prime Video or Audible runs through your Amazon account, these will also be automatically deleted. This also applies to Amazon Music, Prime Gaming and the Kindle.

What’s happening with your smart home devices?

Before you delete your Amazon account, you should also check your smart home devices. Because once the account is history, you no longer have access to Amazon Echo or Fire TV.

With the Smartspeaker Echo, for example, the Amazon account is required to create lists or use skills. Fire TV does not have access to the App Store, Prime Video and Amazon Music without the Amazon account.

Films, series or books already purchased on the Kindle are no longer available. This also applies to audio books on Audible.

Here’s how to delete your Amazon account

Once the Amazon account is deleted, it cannot be restored. The US group points to this on its Account Closure Website explicitly.

On this page, Amazon also lists in detail which data is affected by the deletion from which Amazon service.

At the bottom of the page there is a drop-down menu where you can select the reason for the account closure. However, this function is optional.

If you really want to delete your Amazon account, you have to tick “Yes, I want to permanently close my Amazon account and delete my data.” and then click on the “Close my account” button.

In a final step, you must then confirm the deletion of the account again via e-mail.
