Deezer warns users after hacking 250 million accounts
Data from around 250 million Deezer user accounts has emerged in recent weeks on specialist forums, as we recently observed. The streaming service now takes care of notifying users.
“The data exposed includes basic information, such as first and last name, date of birth, email address”, Deezer told AFP on Tuesday, but the streaming service assures that they contain no password or payment data. The group declined to confirm the number of user accounts affected, but the hackers selling the information have already mentioned 250 million users. The data is from 2019.
Deezer notified the CNIL, the French guardian of digital privacy, in November and has been working closely with them ever since. In agreement with the CNIL, “We are in the process of contacting the users concerned by email to make them aware of the risks of phishing (phishing) and to encourage them to be vigilant”explained Deezer. “We recommend that our users, as a precaution, change their password”the service reported.
The database notably contains the data of 46.2 million users in France, 37.1 million users in Brazil and 15.3 million users in Germany.
