Days Gone has more units sold than Tsushima -apkrig
During CES 22, Sony boasted that the Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch has already sold 8 million units. The game has been talked about since its release as a huge success, exacerbated by the fact that it was the start of a completely new brand. Therefore, no one rightly doubts that the title does not deserve a planned film adaptation or a possible sequel, and it is most likely that Ghost of Tsushima will become another of PlayStation’s successful series. But then there’s the second look that game director Days Gone comes up with on his Twitter. Jeff Ross claims that the game, which Sony was to call a failure and, according to speculation, also prevented the development of the second part, managed to sell even more pieces than the story from the island of Cushima, which raises a lot of questions and considerations, according to which Sony actually measures that success.
At the time I left Sony, Days Gone had been out for a year and a half (and a month), and sold over 8 million copies. It’s since gone on to sell more, and then a million+ on Steam. Local studio management always made us feel like it was a big disappointment. #daysgone #PlayStation https://t.co/KMZr2pGe9r

“When I left Sony, Days Gone was on the market for 1.5 years and a month. The games have sold 8 million copies, “wrote Ross, who left Studio Bend and thus Sony two years ago. He also mentioned that the game naturally continued to sell in the following months, and its release on Steam was to increase the total number of pieces sold by more than a million. “But the management of the studio has always shown us that the game was a big disappointment,” Ross concludes bitterly. However, this opened up a relatively large space for various comments, which, according to his estimate, are approximately 10: 1 in favor of positive reactions against negative ones, and he willingly responded to some of them. Again, for example, he confirmed that a continuation took place in the studio, which came on the level of speculation journalist Jason Schreier came up last April. “I planned to continue building on what we created and make a great sequel,” Ross said a few hours ago, using Killzone as a brand as an expected development for Days Gone. “The first Killzone had a score of 70 on Metacritic, but the sequel got a great 91. You have to learn to crawl before you start and walk before you start running,” Ross added, and the disappointment of his game certainly cannot be overlooked.
Congratulations 🥂🎉 Always thought it was an ambitious and impressive title. The HORDES! It was a real privilege to be there on Launch Day. Will not forget. 💪🏽💙 pic.twitter.com/kt3EnlhsJb

It was the mention of the Metacritic portal that led other debaters to bring to light the fact that some game publishers attach great importance to this evaluation and the analyzes of success or failure partly build on it. Interestingly, however, then-Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden, who may have been partly responsible for what happened to the brand after the release, also responded to Ross’s contribution. He left Sony in October 2019, half a year after the release of Days Gone, when the first results and acceptance of the game were undoubtedly known to critics and players alike. Nevertheless, in return, he congratulates Ross on his great success and claims that it has always been a great and ambitious title. “Those hordes [zombíků]! It was an immense honor for me to participate in the launch. I will never forget, “Layden wrote. Ross, of course, thanked him and he explained to all of whom congratulations may have seemed strange, that Layden was the one who fought for the title and was therefore certainly not the supposed gravedigger of his future.
But what does that mean for Days Gone or Ross? On a personal level, there may be a sense of satisfaction, but in the sense of the future of Days Gone, apparently nothing that would change Sony’s position in the foreseeable future. Although the company holds all the rights, it does not seem that the story should continue, which not all the debaters consider a defeat. Some take the game as clear proof that Sony is not afraid to take risks and launch new brands, but even with regard to some objective qualities, Days Gone does not consider it a hit and looks forward to what the next Japanese company will bring. It is also important to remember that Ross’s post on social media was not commented on by anyone from Sony, so his words remain a one-sided statement of what happened in the studio years ago and what impact the title had internally. We can only speculate about how high the budget was, even though the game managed to make money on itself, according to previous statements, and unfortunately we do not know any other circumstances on the basis of which it made its decision. The only thing that remains valid is the work of the Bend studio on a new game, which will use the experience with the preparation of the open world from the game Days Gone.
