Daughter Nienke Plas back home: ‘I find it exciting’

Fantastic news for Nienke Plas and her family: daughter Harvey is back home after major heart surgery. “Confidence still needs to grow a bit.”

The world of Nienke Plas and her husband Resley came to a standstill when baby Harvey had to undergo urgent heart surgery. A nerve-wracking week followed, but now she is back home. Nienke writes on Instagram: “Since a few days we have been laughing. It seems that Harvey has grown a lot since the operation. She’s taller, tanning and smiling! Sometimes I want to believe that she wants to show that she too is grateful for the ‘upgrade’ she has received. ‘Look mom, I feel great, I’m going great’.”

Wonder

Just as Nienke took us to the hospital this week, she takes us home in her latest vlog. There, with baby Harvey back in her own bed, wonder prevails. “I think it’s so special that she does things that she didn’t do before. She laughs a little now and then. I forgot she didn’t. She also cries a lot less. She didn’t cry very much, but she could scream when you went to change her. Really those Beyoncé-Adele opera notes, but now she is much more relaxed.”

To trust

Home sweet home, but it remains exciting. “She is no longer on the monitor. Staff are not in the corridor here, doctors are not around. We just have to have faith that things are going well. But for the first two months I thought that, except for the baby things, everything was going well. It is crazy: emergency surgery and being home again in one week.”

She continues on Instagram: “At home with her brothers, at home in her own bed. I find it exciting and confidence has to grow again, but as soon as I get a smile from this happy little boy I smile back broadly.”
