Dacia Spring is not for me

My next car will be battery-powered, I decided that some time ago. Since then, I’ve been looking for the perfect e-car for me, a bargain hunter, that isn’t too expensive to buy, has low maintenance costs and looks reasonably good. The Dacia Spring would be a good option. But after I saw it, the tide turned completely.

A commentary by Peter Hryciuk

Dacia Spring doesn’t suit me after all

Almost a year ago I gave you five reasons why the Dacia Spring would be the perfect electric car for me. Basically, nothing has changed at the points. It’s still a very affordable and beautiful electric car that’s perfect for the city. But when I saw the Dacia Spring in front of me for the first time, it quickly became clear that nothing would happen to us. You can see that in the pictures E-car looks much bigger than it really is.

I thought it was a compact city SUV. This is how the Dacia Spring looks when you see it on its own. If you look at the picture above, the e-car doesn’t look so small either. In reality, and especially compared to other small cars, the car is really a mini speedster. As I sat inside, the impression was reinforced. I have no problem at all with the choice of material and the quality of workmanship. We’re still talking about an e-car that costs just over 10,000 euros after deducting the subsidy, but I just don’t have the space. In comparison, the Renault Zoe and Skoda Citigo e iV look like space miracles.

the So Dacia Spring is off the table for me. The decision was also reinforced by the poor performance in the NCAP crash test. There, the cheap Stromer only achieved one out of five stars. Although as a saver I try to save wherever I can – I don’t make any compromises when it comes to security. Especially because my current Renault Megane gets 5 out of 5 stars.

In the video, the Dacia Spring doesn’t look that small:

Which electric car will it be then?

In the price range in which I would like to move, there is currently simply no electric car for me. That’s why I’ll have to stick with my diesel for the time being and try to drive it as little as possible. In the coming years, some small cars are announced. By 2025 at the latest, there should be a much larger selection. By then I’ll probably have a charging station and be able to charge the e-car right in front of the door.

The alternative would be to spend a lot more money. If money wasn’t an issue, the KIA EV6 would actually be the perfect choice for me. Of course it’s a completely different caliber, but the electric car really impressed me in the test. A Ford Mustang Mach-E or Tesla Model 3 would also be real dream cars. But they cost a multiple of the Dacia Spring. I don’t want to spend that much money because I don’t need a car. So it says keep waiting and see which small e-cars will soon be on the market.
