Console resellers should have come up with $ 58 million in the US -apkrig
Whether in connection with the lack of graphics cards or consoles, players and the media are constantly solving the problem of resellers and so-called scalpers, which manage to buy new deliveries of goods on a large scale and then sell them at a much higher price, for example on auction portals. Analyst Michael Driscoll, who has been monitoring the sales of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series in the United States since December last year and is offering relatively interesting estimates through the available tools, is trying to prove how big this problem is. He relies on browsing the eBay and StockX auction portals using his own script, claiming that 10-15 percent of all PlayStation 5 consoles and up to 20 percent of the Xbox Series X | WITH.
But Michael Driscoll makes it quite clear that resellers made $ 43.2 million from the sale of a console from Sony and less than $ 15 million from the sale of new Xboxes.
Driscoll also lists the specific numbers of consoles sold in its articles, but it is not possible at this time to compare them with any information from Sony or Microsoft, which has not yet officially commented on the results. However, the analyst believes that 157,000 PS5 consoles and 133,000 Xbox Series X and S devices have been sold through more than $ 200 million through the auction portals. The price of the consoles in the monitored ads is naturally variable, but Driscoll makes it quite clear that resellers made $ 43.2 million from Sony console sales and less than $ 15 million from new Xbox sales, for a total of $ 58 million in profits from two portals and only in the United States.
Importantly, both portals, along with PayPal, were to raise more than $ 25 million for brokering auctions and direct sales, which is also the answer to why these sites are not actively opposing these practices. On the other hand, it is difficult to define when such sales, which we may perceive as unethical, become illegitimate and it would therefore be appropriate to interfere with the operation of the service and users’ rights. But even that is part of the whole problem that resellers have bet on, and as described above, they benefit from it. The second, no less important circumstance is the simple fact that neither Microsoft nor Sony are able to satisfy the demand and nothing will change in the foreseeable future, on the contrary.
Because a few days ago, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood said the Xbox Series shortage would last at least until April, her investor colleague Mike Spencer told the New York Times that the current situation would last at least until June.
