Fitbit’s new Charge 5 fitness tracker aims to give users greater insight into their exercise, stress, heart health, sleep and overall well-being. It comes with an improved design and has a price tag of 179.95 euros.

Fitbit’s Charge range consists of the brand’s most complete fitness trackers, and a new generation is ready. The Charge 5 has a thinner and fresher design and comes with an AMOLED color screen that is twice as bright compared to the previous generation. Fitbit is also adding an always-on screen feature to its fitness tracker for the first time. The battery of the band can last up to 7 days on a single charge.

Fitbit introduces a new feature for the Fitbit Premium subscription in combination with the Charge 5. Daily recovery score allows you to see if your body is ready for exercise or if it is better to take it easy. Each morning you will receive a score based on your activity, heart rate variability (HRV), and recent sleep. You also get an analysis of the factors that influenced your score, and suggestions such as a recommended target for minutes in active zones. The daily recovery score will also soon be available on Fitbit Sense, Versa 3, Versa 2, Luxe and Inspire 2.

Sports and stress

In addition, the Charge 5 also has built-in GPS, 20 training modes, automatic sports recognition and an estimate of your V02 Max, which is the maximum amount of oxygen your body can use during intense workouts.

The corona crisis has made people more stressed, and the Charge 5 can detect stress with its EDA sensor so that you can deal with it better. The EDA sensor measures your body’s response to stress based on changes in the sweat glands on your fingers, and it’s a feature the manufacturer introduced earlier with the Sense smartwatch.

Heart and Meditation

Another Sense feature that is also coming to the Charge 5 is the ECG app. That’s an app that can help detect atrial fibrillation, the most common form of heart rhythm disorder. The Charge 5 also tracks your heart rate 24/7 and notifies you when your heart rate is above or below your personal limits. While many factors can affect your heart rate, a heart rate that is too high or too low can be an indication of a heart condition that requires medical attention.

Furthermore, sleep analysis and smart alarms are also present again and you can use the Charge 5 to receive notifications and pay contactless in stores. New to Premium subscribers are the ammediation and mindfulness sessions that they can access. These are supposed to help you relax, and Fitbit teamed up with Calm to do it. That is a famous app for sleeping, meditation and relaxing.

The Charge 5 is available for $179.95, which includes a six-month Fitbit Premium membership (for new and returning Fitbit users). The Charge 5 can be ordered online from today at Fitbit.com, bol.com and Coolblue, and will be available this fall.
