combine searches, that’s how it works

In the Google apps there is now a way to search with both text and an image combined. For example, Google can show results based on that image and the text provides even more targeted results. The feature is rolling out to beta users of the Google app.

Google multisearch

The search engine is still very important to Google as it is used by billions of people every day. They will then see sponsored results and Google will further analyze your search to be able to sell relevant ads. It’s the well-known recipe.

This time, Google improves on the search function in the Google app on smartphones, which also works with the search bar on the home screen. You can now search for images and add extra text at the same time. Google calls that ‘multisearch’ in a blog post. You can get more relevant results by combining an image with text.

That is how it works

For example, it is possible to use an image of a white Galaxy S22 and use the search term ‘green’ as the color. You will then see photos of a green Galaxy S22 as results. This also works for garments in different colors or other situations where you want to give more context to images.

We explain how you can use the function. In the Google app, tap the Lens icon to choose an image. You will then see related results under ‘Search’. At the top is a plus button with which you can add text to the search result. You will then see the combined search results.

The feature is now rolling out to beta users of the Google app, but here at the editors, the feature isn’t working on our phones yet.
