Fitbit Charge 5 official

After many rumors, Fitbit has officially unveiled its Charge 5. It is the successor to the company’s most popular fitness tracker. Compared to the Charge 4, the new wearable is ten percent thinner and the color screen is twice as bright, while the battery should only last seven days.

The Charge 5 has everything you can expect from a Fitbit tracker. This way you can measure your heart rate, activities and sleep. GPS is also built in. This is also the first Fitbit tracker with an EKG app to check your heart rhythm.

In addition, there is a stress meter via an EDA sensor, known from the Fitbit Sense. With that, you can get a stress management score. You can read more about this sensor in our Fitbit Sense review.

Daily Recovery Score

Completely new is the daily recovery score. With this feature you get a daily score that indicates whether your body is ready for an intensive workout, or whether you need a rest day for recovery. If you don’t want to exercise, you can always say that Fitbit doesn’t allow it.

The daily recovery score includes your sleep over the past few days and your heart rate during deep sleep. This feature only works with a Fitbit Premium subscription and is also coming to the Fitbit Sense, Versa 3, Versa 2, Luxe, and Inspire 2.

Not all functions are immediately usable. For example, the daily recovery score and the EKG app will only be available via an update later this year.

More behind Premium

Fitbit has been putting more and more emphasis on its Fitbit Premium subscription in recent years, and the Charge 5 continues this trend. For 10.99 euros per month or 87.99 euros per year, you get more insights into your health, and you can start workouts and meditations with videos.

In addition to the daily recovery score, you also need Premium for a deeper analysis of your sleep and guidance to improve your sleep quality.

New partnerships are also being introduced. For example, Fitbit works together with Calm, an app that helps to relax. Sessions of Calm can be found in the Fitbit app, if you have Premium. You will also find new video workouts from Les Mills there.

Exclusive Dutch content will also be added to Fitbit Premium later this year, with videos by Judith Noordzij, Lieve Vandenweghe, Lienke de Jong and Milou Turpijn that help with sports, yoga and meditation. When you buy a Charge 5, you get six months of free access to Fitbit Premium.

Price and availability

The Fitbit Charge 5 is more expensive than its predecessors. The Charge 4 was put on the market for 149.95 euros. The Charge 5 costs 179.95 euros. In addition, there are various straps available, which cost between 29.95 and 49.95 euros.

The Fitbit Charge 5 will be available from the end of September in the colors lunar white/gold, black/graphite and steel blue/platinum, but can already be ordered via Fitbit.com, Bol.com and Coolblue.
