Cleaning toys quickly and easily: this is how you do it

With those sticky little hands, cleaning toys is crucial. But how do you do that? We help you on your way with these handy tips.

Cleaning toys

Just ate and go: those hands are already in a box of blocks. The dirt is not always visible, but toys are quickly covered with food particles and drool. Not so hygienic. Cleaning toys sounds like a full-day program, but these tips make it a breeze. How often should you clean toys? Baby toys once or twice a week, children’s toys once a month and stuffed animals several times a year. These are also golden tips for cleaning second-hand toys.

Cuddly toys

You have to break a heart for it (because: sleeping without a favorite cuddly toy), but washing a cuddly toy is so hygienic from time to time. Preferably follow the washing instructions on the label, but you probably cut it off. Then put the cuddly toy in a laundry bag or pillowcase and wash it at 30 degrees. When in doubt, hand washing is a good alternative. Please note: very old or fragile cuddly toys, cuddly toys with batteries or with a filling of microballs will probably not survive the washing machine. Then put it in the freezer for a few hours to kill all the bacteria.

Silicone or rubber toys

These toys are best cleaned by hand, not in the dishwasher. Make soapy water with dish soap and gently wipe the toy. Is it really dirty? Then you can use disinfectant spray or wipes.

Hard plastic toys

Think of building blocks, kitchen toys or plastic blocks. Handy tip: throw everything in the top drawer of your dishwasher. You can also fill a bucket with all-purpose cleaner, let the toys soak for a while and wipe everything with a cloth. Plastic toys, such as Lego and Duplo, can also be cleaned in the washing machine. Put the toy in a double pillowcase and wash at 30 to 40 degrees. Of course, you don’t throw toys with batteries in the suds. It is better to wipe this off with a disinfecting cloth. Cleaning Playmobil? Manufacturer’s tip: Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Then rinse well and let it dry.

dolls

Most dolls are absolutely not allowed in the washing machine. You wash a doll by soaping the body and hair with some mild baby shampoo. Doll clothes can also be washed in the washing machine. Is the doll full of black stripes? Make a paste of oil and baking soda and rub it gently over the stripes. Note: avoid the painted parts of the doll, such as the eyes and lips.

Wooden toy

To avoid damaging the wood, use mild cleaning products as much as possible. Try to remove as much dirt as possible with a dry or wet cloth. Other stains can be easily removed with baby wipes, green soap or diluted all-purpose cleaner. Do you really want to disinfect it? Then use vinegar. But because children like to put toys in their mouths, natural cleaning products are preferred.
