Chromecast with Google TV: June 21 officially on sale

Actually, it’s a bit strange, because Google had already announced this new version of the Chromecast at the end of 2020. It never came to an official Dutch release. Even more striking is that this Google Chromecast with Google TV has been for sale at various web shops for some time, but via the gray import.

Now the new Chromecast is really coming to the Netherlands. From June 21, the Chromecast with Google TV is officially on sale for 69.99 euros at all well-known online stores. But what can you actually do with it?

Chromecast: makes your television (even) smarter

You can still make an older television ‘smart’ with this Chromecast. This way you can turn any ‘normal’ television into a real smart TV. Even if you have a television where the apps are no longer updated, the Chromecast is a godsend.

By connecting the device to your television, you immediately have access to various apps. It is also possible to stream content from your iPhone to your TV, without having to bother with paid apps.

The remote control is new, so you can also use it to start apps. On the remote control you will find buttons for Netflix or YouTube, among other things. There is also a special button to activate the Google Assistant (this is the Google variant of Siri). This allows you to open apps via voice control. Of course there are also buttons to go to the home screen of Google TV, or to switch off the Chromecast.

Google TV vs Android TV

This new Chromecast with Google TV is actually an expanded version of the normal Chromecast. The older generation still runs on Android TV, but with this new version, Google has switched to Google TV.

Chromecast Google TV

Google TV gives you suggestions on what you might like to watch, based on your viewing habits. The software looks at content from various services. Many streaming services, including HBO Max, ViaPlay, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney Plus, are standard on the Chromecast’s main screen. So you can start watching immediately after logging in.

Streaming in 4K

The Chromecast with Google TV can stream movies and TV shows in 4K. Of course, the streaming service and streaming subscription you use must support this. The device can also handle HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio. The Chromecast also works with Nest devices, if you have them at home.
