Chinese Oppo is another manufacturer that will develop its own chipset
The development of their own chipsets is not uncommon for smartphone manufacturers today. Google has already taken the same step, introducing its own chipset for the new Pixels. Next in line would be according to the portal NIKKEI Asia should be a Chinese manufacturer Oppo.
The chipsets will also include their own image processor
Oppo should even have started developing its own chipsets that could be available for its smartphones in 2023 or 2024, depending on the speed of development. The main reason should be the effort to reduce dependence on chip vendors such as American Qualcomm or Chinese MediaTek. Another reason is the fear of similar sanctions imposed by the US government on rival Huawei, which significantly complicated the production of its smartphones.
Oppo should use the 3 nm production process of another Chinese company, TSMC, to produce chipsets. The American giants Apple and Intel also use it to produce their own chips. For chipsets, Oppo should even develop its own AI algorithms and image processor to improve the quality of photos from the brand’s smartphones. Google has taken a similar step with its own Google Tensor chipset.
Oppo will not be nearly the first manufacturer with its own chipsets
Samsung has been producing Exynos’ own chipsets for Galaxy smartphones for decades. However, he also uses chipsets from the American company Qualcomm with them. For many years, the Chinese competitor Huawei used exclusively Kirin’s own chipsets for many years. However, due to US sanctions, their production has become more complicated in recent months and it will probably have to reach for a competitive solution.
Probably the most famous manufacturer of its own ARM chipsets for its products in recent years is the American company Apple. It even began to be used on Macbooks, breaking away from dependence on Intel processors. The last company to install its smartphones with its own chipset is Google. Its 5 nm Google Tensor chipset in Google Pixel 6 smartphones has been developed primarily to support AI functions and photography.
