Chinese Apple Watch Series 7 clones paint a picture of new design

It’s almost certain: the Apple Watch Series 7 gets a new design, with flatter edges and right angles. In China they have not missed this; multiple clones of the still unannounced Apple smartwatch have surfaced online.

Read on after the ad.

First Apple Watch Series 7 clones from China appear online

Photos of Apple Watch Series 7 clones from China recently appeared online, courtesy of twitterer Majin Bu. The clones of the unannounced Apple watch are available in multiple colors and finishes. They are clearly based on leaked renders, from the likes of Jon Prosser.

Although product cloning is of course a very bad industry; counterfeit products like these give us a better idea of unannounced products. However, it is important that no one buys these watches with the idea of getting an original Apple Watch. The design of a clone may look like the original, but in use there is a world of difference.

Do you think these clones are ugly? Don’t panic, the original Apple Watch Series 7 is probably going to look a lot better. According to Majin Bu, these clones are sold in China for about $60. You can’t expect the same precision that Apple puts into its watches for this money.

A lot of details of these fake watches – such as the way the screen flows into the housing – are expected to look much slicker on the original. The real Apple Watch Series 7 is also rumored to receive a number of new colors and designs, while the clones can only be found in silver and black ‘aluminium’. In reality, the housing of the fake watches is probably made of matted plastic, which resembles aluminum.

We don’t have to wait long for the real Apple Watch Series 7

Leaked renders, specs and now even clones – it’s clear we won’t have to wait long for the Apple Watch Series 7. But when exactly Apple will announce the watch, we’re not quite sure yet.

It is almost certain that Apple will organize an event in September. September 14 is mentioned as a possible date. Here we are expected to see both the Apple Watch Series 7 and the iPhone 13. If this rumor is true, the watch will go on pre-order on September 17. Those who act quickly can then have the watch at home from September 24, when the final release takes place.

We expect Apple to start sending out invitations in the coming weeks. Once these are out the door, we’ll know for sure when the Apple Watch Series 7 release will take place. Do you want to stay informed of all developments? Then sign up for the iPhoned newsletter, or download our free app.
