The Xiaomi Mi 11 is the last new top smartphone of 2020 – or the first of 2021. The market launch price is probably also a lot lower in Europe than that of the iPhone 12. But are the two devices really equivalent?
According to the manufacturer, the Xiaomi Mi 11 and the iPhone 12 cost about the same in production, reports SparrowsNews. In terms of sales, however, the prices for the two top smartphones differ significantly. In China, the Apple smartphone with 64 GB of storage space costs around 6299 yuan, which is the equivalent of around 790 euros. The starting price for the Xiaomi Mi 11, on the other hand, is only 3999 yuan (around 500 euros).
Elaborate camera development
According to Xiaomi partner Pan Jiutang, you will definitely do better business with the Xiaomi Mi 11. Xiaomi put the equivalent of around 2.5 million euros into the development of the camera module with rounded corners. And the screen is even better than that of the iPhone 12. Accordingly, the Mi-10 successor offers by far the better price-performance ratio.
In fact, the OLED display of the Xiaomi Mi 11 is impressive. It measures 6.81 inches diagonally, has a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, which means 551 ppi for its size. The screen also offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Apple uses an OLED display with 6.1 inches and a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels (460 ppi) for its current top smartphone. The iPhone 12’s display also only runs at 60 Hz.
Difficult comparison
On paper, the Xiaomi Mi 11 can undoubtedly set itself apart from the iPhone 12. And Apple does not come close to the price-performance ratio with the iPhone 12. Whether the Mi phone is actually the better choice depends on various factors.
For example, Apple guarantees an update period of at least four years. With the iPhone 12 you will still have the latest operating system and all relevant security updates in 2024. And a direct comparison will only show which camera ultimately takes better photos. While we have already taken a close look at the iPhone 12 and its camera, we have to wait a while for the Mi 11.
It is also questionable how high the development and production costs actually are. Due to the different amounts alone, completely different computing variables are likely to play a role for Apple and Xiaomi. It was only recently announced that Apple had revised its order quantities for the iPhone 12 upwards in the first quarter of 2021. However, it is still not certain when the Xiaomi Mi 11, which was only presented at the end of December, will appear in Europe. But it should still be available in spring 2021.
