ChatGPT disables history due to privacy bug

ChatGPT lost a feature today: the history with all requests made by users. OpenAI, which handles artificial intelligence, suspended this system because of a privacy bug.

For a while, several ChatGPT users had access to other people’s history, while each session requires a username and password. The history is located on the left of the artificial intelligence. It is possible to have several conversations at the same time.

As a result of this bug, OpenAI disabled ChatGPT while it corrected the situation. The tool is since back, but the history is not. “History is temporarily unavailable. We are working to restore this functionality as soon as possible”, indicates artificial intelligence when trying to use it. But this has no impact on actual use, it is always possible to make requests and get a response in return.

What is the reason for this bug? OpenAI informs Bloomberg that it is related to open-source software, but there are no more details and the investigation continues to find out a little more on the subject.

This bug is an important reminder to be careful about sensitive information shared with ChatGPT. “Please do not share sensitive information in your conversations”warns an FAQ on the OpenAI website, clarifying that the company cannot delete specific messages from a person’s history and that the conversations can be used for training purposes. However, the temptation to share confidential information with the chatbot will inevitably be strong, especially as companies continue to experiment with using this new tool.
