How long the battery of an electric car lasts has a lot to do with how the driver handles the battery. Fast charges are very practical, but are they harmful in the long run? What is a so-called “snore charge” anyway?

One “snore chargeIn principle, this describes the exact opposite of fast charging in electric cars or plug-in hybrids. Instead of speed, this process relies on comparatively slow loading. There is not necessarily a precise definition, but what is meant is AC charging, i.e. alternating current, up to 22 kW. For comparison: Fast charging describes charging at public direct current stations (DC) from 50 kW. Commercially available wall boxes for the home garage are ideal for “snoring loads”.
Get one for installing one wall box You definitely need an installer, as the affected power lines in your home network must be checked for their resilience. You should never plug your e-car into a normal socket, as you can damage a lot with it. The consequences can include blown fuses or even cable fires. Forego fast charging: What’s the point behind it?
The more current that flows into the battery at once, the greater the load on it. So, over time, fast charging reduces battery life. The “snore charge” is intended to protect the battery and thus extend its service life, after all it is the most important component of the electric car.
If you only charge with full power and thus regularly accept overheating, the material properties inside the battery will change over time. Because of this so-called “degradation“ the charging capacity and the acceleration performance decrease. The phenomenon happens naturally, but the quick charges speed up the process significantly.

What is the correct way to charge your e-car?
The correct charging of the heart of your Stromer has to be learned. This does not mean that you should completely do without fast charging stations on the go. After all, you don’t want to spend the whole afternoon at the motorway service area. Rather, it is the constant supply of strong direct current at public charging stations that gradually wears out the lithium-ion battery.
So plan regular snoring charges, charge your battery leisurely overnight to the target value of 80 percent and give the battery some rest.
