Xiaomi certainly imagined things differently: In the well-known camera test by DxOMark, the Chinese manufacturer’s latest top cell phone suffered a hefty defeat. The Xiaomi 12 Pro couldn’t even win against a two-year-old cell phone.

With prices starting at 1,049 euros, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is anything but a bargain. For the money, buyers can expect equipment that can compete with the crème de la crème of the smartphone industry in all areas. Ironically, the new Xiaomi smartphone is not entirely convincing when it comes to the camera.

Xiaomi 12 Pro scored 131 points in the DxOMark camera test

The Xiaomi 12 Pro scored 131 points in the DxOMark camera test. In the ranking of the camera experts, that’s enough for 14th place, which is undoubtedly a disappointment. Xiaomi must have hoped for a better placement for the smartphone with a triple camera.

The 131 points are made up of three individual categories:

  • photo: 141 points
  • zoom: 65 points
  • Video: 111 points

The Xiaomi 12 Pro receives praise for its sharpness of detail, among other things, which delivers good results “in most conditions”. The testers also liked the fast and even autofocus and the effective video stabilization. There was criticism, for example, for a slightly limited depth of field and unnatural headlight effects in bokeh mode. The white balance for video recordings was not entirely convincing either.

Two-year-old Vivo phone on par with Xiaomi 12 Pro

Particularly bitter for Xiaomi: With 131 points, the Xiaomi 12 Pro doesn’t even manage to surpass the Vivo X50 Pro+ – although the Vivo cell phone came onto the market in June 2020 and will soon be two years old. After all: Even the more expensive Galaxy S22 Ultra did not manage more than 131 points in the DxOMark camera test – a small drop of bitterness.
