Buzz Lightyear will be streaming on August 3 on Disney+, except in France

Buzz Lightning, the latest film from Pixar, now has a streaming release date on Disney+: it will be August 3. But like the other films, it concerned all countries, except France.

Buzz Lightyear in August on Disney+… but not in France

The absence of Buzz Lightning on Disney+ in France in August can be explained by the chronology of the media. This French law imposes a delay between the release of a film in the cinema and its availability on other media (DVD/Blu-ray, VOD, streaming platforms, television). Initially, the law imposed a deadline of 36 months, or three years. The media timeline has evolved this year and the timeline is 15 months for Netflix and 17 months for others like Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video. Netflix has an advantage because it participates more in French creation (200 million euros in 2022 for example).

When will we be able to see the film on Disney+? It was born in cinemas on June 22. We can therefore expect an arrival on Disney + France at the end of September 2023.

Of course, some people will not be patient and will use a VPN to have a Belgian or Swiss IP address for example. This will allow them to see Buzz Lightning on Disney+ from August 3. These countries will offer dubbing with the French version of France (and not Quebec), so French people who go through the VPN will have the same voices.

There is also the case of people who will illegally download the film. Again, these people will have the film in French before the official arrival on Disney+ in France.

As a reminder, Disney recently criticized the media timeline, to the point that its next film Avalonia will not be released in cinemas in France, but directly on Disney+. Netflix also criticized the French law, saying the wait for the streaming release should be weeks, not months.
