Buy your mom an iPhone

Apple CEO Tim Cook has a very special idea for people struggling with Apple’s narrow-mindedness with iMessage. They should simply buy their mother an iPhone – and the problem is gone.

Tim Cook: Apple problem solved by buying an iPhone

Tim Cook took the time for an interview at the Vox Media Code 2022 event. There he recommended to a reporter that this got his mother an iPhone. So an Apple homegrown problem would just vanish into thin air.

The background to Cook’s proposal can be found at iMessage. Apple still refuses to rely on the RCS standard, which allows communication from and to Android smartphones more convenient for all users would.

Currently, iMessage looks like images and videos in a much lower resolution, if they come from an Android device. The reporter had complained about this. According to Cook, this is not an issue that its own users would complain about (source: The Verge).

Apple’s solo effort is also increasingly going against the grain of Google. Recently, Google even had one public campaign created to raise awareness of the issue. Quite a few iPhone owners in the USA are likely to look to Android rather than Apple for the annoying difficulties with iMessage communication.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Android or iOS: there are apps in the video that belong on every cell phone.

Apple: iMessage for Android will not come

It still doesn’t look like iMessage will ever come out as a dedicated app for Android. A year ago, during the court case between Epic and Apple internal logs of conversations between Apple executives public, in which urgent warnings were given. Customers would then have one less important reason to choose an iPhone.
