Buy digital sneakers from Nike
Would you do it? Buying digital sneakers for a lot of money, while you can never wear them. Well, only in the online world.
Nike has taken a further step with an acquisition to also be able to sell shoes in the online world. Previously, Nike filed trademark applications, according to CNBC. This as part of selling virtual sneakers and clothing. Now, the footwear and sportswear giant has acquired a startup called RTFKT (pronounced “artifact”) that will help the company accelerate its “digital transformation”.
Digital sneakers from Nike
The company is speeding up and is therefore taking over the startup. Founded in early 2020, RTFKT has since made a name for itself designing and creating what it calls “Metaverse-ready sneakers and collectibles” – all digital goods that people pay real money for.
Everyone is talking about NFTs and the market is booming. It is expected that this market will only continue to grow, on the way to the metaverse. This is the future vision for the internet in which people can communicate in a virtual world with digital avatars. And yes, companies like Nike naturally want to take advantage of that.
Plan
The company has big plans for RTFKT and the team. Nike’s President and CEO, said: “We are acquiring a highly talented team of creators with an authentic and connected brand. Our plan is to invest in the RTFKT brand, serve and grow their innovative and creative community and Nike’s digital footprint and capabilities.” On Twitter, the startup said it will “continue to develop its brand, innovations, products and community with Nike resources and talent.” Soon we will be shopping digital sneakers.
