Gapiński: ‘CarPlay is possible in a Tesla’
Polish developer Michał Gapiński is fed up with the interface and operating system in Tesla cars. A few months ago he built Apple CarPlay in a Tesla with a few Raspberry Pi’s (a kind of mini computer) and some internet equipment.
He did this via Android Auto, hence the name The Tesla Android Project† With an app on Android, he launched Apple CarPlay in the well-known electric car. Now Gapiński has put a new version online.
Now also CarPlay browser in a Tesla
By default, Tesla’s cars do not support Apple’s CarPlay. The Polish developer changed that. He has added a lot of new features to CarPlay in Tesla’s browser with version 2022.25.1.
The Tesla Android Project now supports all cars Tesla sells. This update should make it easier for novice techies to download the software and activate CarPlay in a Tesla.
In addition to easy installation and support for all Tesla models, there are also a number of new cool features and bug fixes available:
- 60Hz refresh rate of the display. The image now moves a lot smoother;
- Apple Music will restart in landscape mode† Previously, this orientation was not yet possible;
- The software behaves normally when loaded while you are driving. Previously, CarPlay in Tesla could sometimes cause strange errors;
- Smoother with audio† CarPlay for the Tesla browser has improvements for the sound.
What is CarPlay and why bother with it?
Why go to all that trouble to customize your Telsa’s operating system? Well, the big draw of CarPlay is its seamless iOS experience from your iPhone to the car. More and more cars support wireless CarPlay. So you no longer have to connect with Bluetooth or plug a cable into your iPhone.
Although this fan version of CarPlay in the Tesla browser is impressive, there are still many areas for improvement. It is not nearly as reliable as Tesla itself supports this operating system from Apple. Gapiński’s software is a step in the right direction for Teslas
iOS 16: CarPlay got a prominent place at WWDC
Don’t feel like fiddling with all kinds of codes and equipment? Then wait a minute! During the keynote of WWDC 2022, we were surprised by the updated version of CarPlay.
Apple told WWDC that CarPlay is becoming more universal for new electric cars. Apple’s operating system will work on more screen sizes. Is Apple going to compete with Tesla? In any case, we see plenty of reasons to do so.
