broken back is easy to fix

A broken back is a common occurrence on an iPhone that has accidentally fallen to the ground. But there is good news. Because according to a teardown of the iPhone 14, the back is now easier to repair!

Read on after the ad.

Apple makes iPhone 14 repair easier

The new iPhone 14 is according to the YouTube channel of iFixit a lot easier to repair than the iPhone 13. You can now open the iPhone from the back, giving you easier access to the other parts. There is an additional advantage to this. This is also where the parts that break most often are located, so it’s easier to access.

Glass back of iPhone 14 can remain intact

The glass back was previously glued to the rest of the device. You could only remove the glass with a special laser machine. If you did this you also had to scrape the glass off in pieces. This is still the case with the iPhone 14 Pro models, by the way.

With the regular iPhone 14, the glass back can be removed in its entirety. This is also useful for reusing this part. iFixit gives the iPhone 14 after this teardown therefore a ‘repair score’ of 7 out of 10. We haven’t seen this score since the iPhone 7.

iPhone still not completely repairable

On the other hand, it seems that Apple still has a ‘software lock’ in their hardware. Some parts are programmed to work only on a specific iPhone. Can’t reprogram the part itself for another iPhone? Then the part will not work.

The well-known YouTube channel Phone Repair Guru has also discovered something special after a teardown. When you remove certain parts (and put them back) they are no longer recognized by the same iPhone 14. This applies to the camera, among other things.

That is strange, because Apple seems to be focusing more and more on repairing your phone or other Apple products in recent years. Recently, the company even launched the ‘Self Service Repair Program’ in the United States.
