MacBook with a large 15-inch screen coming
Apple is working on a 15-inch MacBook, according to multiple sources. No Pro, no Air – no, just a ‘MacBook’. Ming-Chi Kuo, one of the best-known and most reliable Apple analysts today, also reports this. Kuo states that Apple will begin mass production of the device in the first half of 2023, which should then hit the market in the third quarter.
According to Kuo, the new 15-inch MacBook will have different variants with different chips. For example, the entry-level model would get an M2 chip, which we also know from the most recent MacBook Air. However, there will also be a version with the still unannounced (but much more powerful) M2 Pro chip. This high-end model would charge at a speed of 67 Watts, while the cheaper M2 model ‘only’ supports a 35 Watt charger.
Kuo hasn’t heard of a new 12-inch MacBook yet, though. Apple previously sold a MacBook with a 12-inch screen, but it was withdrawn from the market in 2018. It seems that the manufacturer has no plans to give this laptop a second chance.
Could it be a bigger MacBook Air after all?
There is quite a bit of disagreement about the name of the 15 inch laptop. For example, various sources talk about a 15-inch version of the MacBook Air. Kuo now simply calls the device “MacBook,” so with this it looks like Apple is planning to revive the old MacBook line. The original MacBook was sold through 2019. These new MacBooks may be a bit cheaper than the Pro and Air models.
It is also possible that Apple has a completely new name for this MacBook in mind. However, nothing is known about this yet. There’s a good chance we won’t find out until the manufacturer officially announces its new 15-inch laptop.
