BioWare and EA are now officially giving up the emergency surgery called “Anthem Next”. Publisher and Studio announce that the Anthem revision is being discontinued to focus on other projects.

Anthem

The attempt to save the 2019 released looter shooter Anthem has now been made by BioWare and Electronic Arts officially declared a failure. A team from BioWare tried to revise the game under the project name “Anthem Next”, but that’s over now. The servers have not yet been put on hold, but the update that will change everything will never happen.

The head of the Anthem team, Christian Dailey, gave in one Blog post the end of Anthem Next known. Even the launch of Anthem was unsuccessful. The press ratings were bad and we could only record a few positive things in our test. The fans had hoped for a lot more from a studio like BioWare. The game looked very unfinished when it was releasedThe loot system and the lack of endgame content were also criticized.

Apparently the team was unable to provide a satisfactory revision. Dailey explains that 2020 was not an easy year and the pandemic-related work from home has severely damaged team productivity.

Focus on Dragon Age and Mass Effect

From now on, the team will take care of other projects at BioWare. The developers are the teams behind the new Mass Effect and Dragon Age 4 step up. They should also work on updates for the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.

With the Legendary Edition, a remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy is expected to be released on May 14, 2021. However, another game in the series is still in the early stages of development at BioWare. The work on Dragon Age 4 is a lot more advanced, there have already been a few short teasers. Nevertheless, according to EA, a new Dragon Age is not expected until the second quarter of 2022 at the earliest.
