A security risk has been found in Google Chrome, one of the most popular and widely used web browsers in the world. This security risk makes your device vulnerable. Google therefore immediately advises users of Google Chrome browser to update the Google Chrome app. What exactly is the security risk and what can I do?

The risk

The risk is probably in the browser’s communication tools. These ensure, among other things, that real-time communication options of the browser are made possible. Malicious persons could abuse the security risk and, for example, carry out a DDoS attack on your smartphone. This is a cyber attack with which malicious parties send huge amounts of data to a specific computer, network, server and/or device. These devices and servers cannot handle this large amount of data and this makes your device unusable.

By the way, Google has not yet analyzed the problem and therefore does not know exactly what the problem was and how it came about. Also, Google has not yet shared any further information about the risk, they have only reported that there is a risk. The only information about it can be found here. This could also be on purpose. For example, Google may wish to first notify people of the risk and alert people to update their browser. After everyone has a safe browser again, the company can spend more time on the cause of the problem.

What to do?

The security risk resides in an older of the Google Chrome app. Google therefore advises to update the app and immediately update it to the latest version: 103.0.5050.71.
