BF 2042: Crossplay on PS4, PS5, PC & Xbox

The new Battlefield 2042 supports crossplay, crossprogression and crosscommerce. In the following we explain to you how exactly everything works, what possible restrictions are and what you should pay attention to.

This is how crossplay works

Battlefield 2042 supports crossplay, but there is a small catch. That is, players cannot play with each other across generations. So it is possible that you can play with or against each other on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and PC. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can only stay among themselves and are separate from the other platforms.

The separation of the generations is due to the different maximum number of players per platform and the different sizes of the maps. Apart from that, your gaming experience shouldn’t differ that much from the new consoles, at least that’s what the developers say. For example, the dynamic weather events or the dangers in the surroundings remain on the old consoles. Only the battlefield is a bit smaller to accommodate the lower numbers of players.

If you are not interested in crossplay, there is also the option to deactivate it manually.

Cross progression & cross commerce

Cross progression encompasses all available platforms. Your progress can be transferred anywhere, regardless of which platform you switch to during your game time. The same goes for crosscommerce.

Many players are already familiar with cross progression and cross play, but what is crosscommerce? These are your in-game purchases. It means that, for example, your purchases made within the game on the PlayStation are also available on PC or Xbox. So if you should change platforms during your playtime, your purchases will remain in effect.
