Best Weapon & All Weapon Locations

In The Callisto Protocol you can use a total of seven different weapons to defend yourself against the monsters in the game. In this guide we show you all weapons and how you can unlock them.

What’s the best weapon?

You won’t get the best weapons until later in the game in The Callisto Protocol. In our playthrough, the following weapons turned out to be the best for us:

  • Up to Chapter 5: Use the electric baton in combination with the revolver for effective combo attacks. Additionally, invest in some baton upgrades to increase combo length (Right upgrade path).
  • Chapter 5 to Chapter 7: In Chapter 5 you get the riot shotgun, which is the overall best weapon for all situations. With the upgrade, a magazine holds eight rounds and the damage against crowds at close range is considerable.
  • From chapter 7: For the first time in Chapter 7 you can find the schematic for the Assault Rifle. Especially for the last boss fight, the assault rifle is best suited. Otherwise you should of course continue to use the riot shotgun.
  • GRP: With the GRP you can pull and throw enemies towards you. Depending on the environment, this weapon is very powerful. Whenever there are traps nearby, use the GRP to throw enemies in. You can also throw them over chasms to get rid of them quickly. Note that you cannot craft recharge batteries for the GRP yourself. So save these and don’t sell them. You only get 10 credits per battery anyway.

Tip: Don’t even craft weapons you don’t want to use. Because otherwise you will always find ammunition for these weapons. If you only craft the weapons you use, you’ll get more ammo for them accordingly.

All weapons in The Callisto Protocol

Most weapons in The Callisto Protocol are obtained automatically as you progress through the game. In the course of the game you will come across reforge stations (crafting workbenches) from time to time, where you can “print” (manufacture) weapons and upgrades. For this you need Callisto credits, which you get as loot from monsters or find in the level areas.

It also plays a big role Close combat with the electric baton. You can also improve this and use it for combos in close combat. In combination with a firearm, you can always place a protection at the end of a combo to deal maximum damage.

There are only three weapons in the game, for which you must find the schematics yourself and then craft them at the Reforge Station. However, these blueprints do not have fixed locations, but appear again and again in several places if you have missed them at a possible location before. We list the earliest possible locations below for the corresponding weapons.

Among other things, you must also completely improve at least one weapon in order to “You need a gun” unlock one of The Callisto Protocol’s trophies and achievements. The easiest way to do this is with the revolver, as it requires the fewest credits for all upgrades. Below we list all the relevant information about each of the seven weapons.

electric baton

  • locality: You own the baton from the start. At first, it’s just a simple baton. After breaking out of the prison, you will then automatically find the electric variant.
  • Characteristics: You can use the baton for melee combos. A little later you then also turn off a combo attack with your equipped firearm, where you get a target overlay for a final shot attack after a combo. This is especially important for enemies with tentacles, so you can kill them with one shot before they mutate.

  • locality: You get the revolver automatically when you print your first weapon at the Reforge station.
  • Characteristics: To the end, the revolver is one of the best weapons in the game that you will always use and feel free to invest a few upgrades in. The last upgrade unlocks an alternative fire mode (press R1/RB button while aiming) where your shots will explode after a short time. However, this consumes several cartridges.

GRP

  • locality: You get the GRP automatically during Chapter 3.
  • Characteristics: The GRP is a device that you wear on your arm. Aim with the L2/LT button, then press the X/A button while aiming at enemies to pull them towards you. You can then use the R2/RT button to throw them in any direction. This weapon is very powerful in environments with traps and chasms to get rid of monsters quickly.

Skunk shotgun

  • locality: You have to unlock the Skunk Shotgun via a scheme. You can find this for the first time in Chapter 3 at the earliest. In the “D3 Basement” area you will pass a locked gate on the right, which you can open with a fuse via the fuse box. Then crawl through the shaft to get into a cell with the schematic.
  • Characteristics: The Skunk Shotgun is very effective at close range, and the alternate fire mode is also powerful, firing multiple projectiles that ricochet off walls. However, almost a magazine of the shotgun only four rounds. Our tip: Do not invest in any upgrades here, as you will receive the much better riot shotgun a little later.

  • locality: This weapon is automatically given to you by Dani during a cutscene in Chapter 5.
  • Characteristics: With the riot shotgun you get one of the best weapons in the game. It holds eight rounds per magazine and has enormous firepower against crowds. We recommend that you improve them to the maximum and use them regularly until the end.

automatic pistol

  • locality: You have to unlock this pistol via a scheme. You will find it in chapter 6 in a side room at the earliest.
  • Characteristics: The automatic pistol can hold up to 20 rounds in a magazine and also has a high rate of fire. However, the bullets do little damage, which made the weapon useless for us. Therefore, our recommendation is not to craft them in the first place, so you don’t get unnecessary ammo for them.

assault rifle

  • locality: You can first find the schematic for the Assault Rifle in Chapter 7. After climbing the ladder to Midtown, you’ll find it in a small house to the left of the main path.
  • Characteristics: The best weapon in the game, which unfortunately you can only find very late in the game. This weapon is best suited for the final boss in particular, as it has the highest rate of fire of all weapons. If you still have credits left, be sure to invest in upgrades here.
