Balcony power plants: Berlin starts funding program
All Berliners who want to buy a plug-in solar device to turn their balcony into a balcony power plant are eligible for funding.
As did the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Business recently announced, a total of seven million euros are available for funding. Berlin wants to achieve a solar power share of 25 percent, according to Stephan Schwarz, Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises:
That is why we are driving the solar turnaround together with the tenants in Berlin. We have expanded the very successful SolarPLUS funding program to include the plug-in solar devices module and are thus taking a further step towards climate neutrality in our city. The electricity produced flows into the company’s own power circuit, thereby reducing its own energy costs.
These are the requirements for a solar system on the balcony
However, before you buy a plug-in solar device, it is important to check whether your own balcony is suitable as a balcony power plant at all. To be on the safe side, at least three conditions must be met:
- The balcony must be oriented towards the sun.
- It shouldn’t have too much shade either.
- The plug-in solar device must be securely fastened.
In addition, the device must be connected to an appropriate electrical circuit to avoid a hazard.
Balcony power plant: How does the funding work?
All tenants with their primary residence in Berlin can apply via the website of the IBB Business Team place. However, it is important that you have not yet ordered or bought the plug-in solar device.
The new subsidy program for balcony power plants is a module of the SolarPLUS program, which is part of the SolarCity master plan. After 2.4 million euros for 2022, the program was increased to a total of 23.7 million euros in 2023.
