Benchmark: the Apple M2 Ultra shows its power

The first benchmarks have arrived for the M2 Ultra chip that powers the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro. The results, appeared on Geekbenchshow the performance gain.

Several benchmarks exist for the M2 Ultra chip, with results around 2,700 on average for one CPU core and around 21,700 for all CPU cores. This means a 20% increase over the M1 Ultra chip, which is in line with what Apple announced during the WWDC 2023 opening keynote. In fact, the M2 Ultra becomes the most powerful chip at Apple, which is no surprise.

Some specific comparisons can be made, including one with the most powerful Mac Pro with a 28-core Intel Xeon W processor. The Mac Pro M2 Ultra is twice as powerful… while being almost half the price.

But why was it specified during the keynote that the new model was three times faster than the most powerful Intel model? Apple has indicated that this affects certain “real professional workflows such as video transcoding and 3D simulation”. But for the rest, the performance gain has doubled and not tripled.

The Mac Studio and Mac Pro with the M2 chip are available now for pre-orders starting at €2,399 and €8,299 respectively. They will be available for purchase from June 13, namely this Tuesday.
