Although all the information from yesterday’s EA Play Live was overshadowed by the confirmation of the development of the Dead Space remake, we should not forget the games, which are much closer with their release and look no less promising. Battlefield 2042 boasted a new fashion at the conference, which was shrouded in mystery until last night. The only thing that was known about the unknown game variant a few hours ago was some linking with the favorite maps from previous episodes, and now we can confirm that the speculation was true. Representatives of DICE introduced the Battlefield Portal mode, in which players will be able to create their own matches and modes while using content not only from Battlefield 2042, but especially the groundbreaking parts of Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.
According to the developers, the Battlefield Portal is meant to be a community platform, whether players want to use it purely as consumers or, conversely, the authors of their own games. The whole experience will therefore include a library of already created matches and modes, which will prospectively include content directly from the developers. The result can be almost anything, which supports not only a wide range of war conflicts, but also a logical editor, which is an unexpected superstructure of otherwise standard custom matches from other action games. In addition, the Battlefield Portal will not only include individual soldiers from various factions, their weapons or vehicles, but also popular maps, always after two of the mentioned previous parts of the series.
The purpose of this mode is to give players the maximum possible degree of freedom and let them play at will.
Namely, you will be able to play on the improved maps of El Alamein and Battle of The Bulge from Battlefield 1942, Arica Harbor and Valparaiso from Bad Company 2 and Caspain Border and Noshahr Canal from Battlefield 3. To this can be added all maps from Battlefield 2042 and all content for even wilder combinations and variants of battles. In a similar vein, we can also mention more than forty weapons with legendary pieces such as the M1 Garand, G3 or M416, the same number of vehicles and aircraft, including the Spitfire and B-17, and finally thirty gadgets and other specific equipment. As the developers state in the official blog, the purpose of this mode is to give players the maximum possible degree of freedom and leave them play as you wish.
As mentioned above, everyone will be able to form matches based on the chosen rules. It is a simpler form of preparing one’s own experience, which is subject, for example, to the specific selection of soldiers, their weapons, conditions of victory and other common attributes. But if anyone wants to to kick into the ground a little deeper, there will be a visual script editor that will bring even more options. These are matters related to, for example, what reward the player will receive for killing the enemy, what happens when one of the phases of the match is fulfilled and other essential things that cannot be selected in the basic settings menu. However, developers warn that working with the editor will not be easy – it should be part of the tools they use to develop the game. In addition, the editor does not allow you to create everything and the limitation is the impossibility of creating a battle royale mode.
In terms of availability, Battlefield Portal will be a direct part of the game right from the release. In addition, the developers talk openly about the fact that the mode is based on the rules of live service platforms, and it is therefore very likely that it will add content beyond the content from Battlefield 2042. historically. Of course, no one promises any specific parts of the series at this time, but if the idea takes hold, there will be nothing fundamental to the developers. There is also the possibility that the Battlefield Portal will become a separate game when its connection with Battlefield 2042 is unpromising, but of course we are ahead of it. In addition to wild matches and mixing everything possible, however, we are also looking forward to seriously conceived fashions, which will undoubtedly come.
