Battery production in Grünheide under construction

Tesla CEO Elon Musk once announced that he wanted to build the world’s largest battery factory in Grünheide. The plans then stalled. Contrary to rumors currently circulating, Tesla does not want to give up battery production in Grünheide.

Since the construction of Tesla’s Gigafactory in Grünheide, negative reports have increased. The working conditions in the factory are not exactly supposed to be employee-friendly. Also, there were always delays Permission to expand the facility templates. That’s why the company now appears to orientate a little further in the direction of the USA.

Because in addition to building new electric vehicles, the US group also wanted to manufacture complete battery cells in Brandenburg. Recent reports suggest that Tesla is now increasingly shifting this capacity to North America. According to the company, the need is greater there, but at the same time money probably also plays a role.

Tesla: Battery production in Grünheide under construction

Because in the case of battery production for vehicles in the USA, buyers are entitled to a subsidy of 7,500 US dollars. That makes the purchase more attractive, and sales on the home market could consequently increase. The state subsidy comes into effect when car manufacturers manufacture their battery cells in North America.

However, contrary to current rumours, Tesla does not want to give up its battery production in Grünheide. Because the US group rejected interim speculation by the news agency Reuters with reference to the Brandenburg Ministry of Economics.

Economics Ministry rejects speculation

Compared to the daily mirror Tesla explained: “We have started the local assembly of battery systems in the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg and are currently ramping up production.” And further: “In the near future, these will also be installed in the vehicles built in Grünheide.”

Tesla’s battery production in Grünheide is not yet fully operational. However, the preparations are in full swing. The Brandenburg Ministry of Economics has now also denied relocating battery production to the USA as wrong.

At least in the meantime, however, the focus is on the USA. This is probably mainly due to fewer bureaucratic hurdles and tax breaks. According to Tesla, battery production in Grünheide is still under construction.

Tesla: New prioritization has no impact on battery production in Grünheide

However, the electric car manufacturer would currently be reprioritizing some process steps in its plants. Irene Beiringer, spokeswoman for the Brandenburg Ministry of Economic Affairs, shared this with the daily mirror with. At the same time, Tesla made it clear that this had “no impact on jobs in Grünheide”.

However, the new prioritization reveals a problem. In this country, bureaucratic hurdles continue to deter many companies. Although the federal government recently funded dozens of projects related to digitization (such as Intel chip factories), other countries are showing more determination.
