AW Poll: How long have you had your current smartphone?

Smartphones come with larger batteries, they are faster and more energy efficient. Does that mean that we also use our phones longer, or are we only too happy to be seduced by new phones? Leave your vote in our AW Poll.

Lifespan smartphones

If you buy a new Android smartphone today, you know that the device must provide at least three years of loyal service before you suffer from less and less good battery performance, speed problems or other shortcomings.

Phones are increasingly equipped with more powerful and energy-efficient chipsets, but the Achilles heel of the smartphone is still lithium-ion battery technology. A battery has only a limited number of life cycles. In other words, batteries wear out over time, and that process usually starts to slowly become more noticeable to smartphone users after two years.

Although batteries slowly lose capacity, we do notice that more and more phones are equipped with an extra large battery. We regularly see copies with a 5000 mAh or even 6000 mAh capacity. The latter is often especially common with smartphones from the low price segment. Look at the new Xiaomi Redmi 9T, the Motorola Moto G9 Power or the Samsung Galaxy M21.

This AW Poll is one that returns regularly, and for a reason. As soon as the results are in, we can compare them with the figures from 2017, 2018 and 2019. Has anything changed in the meantime? Do we use our telephones for longer or do we prefer a newer model regularly? Leave your vote in this AW Poll and tell us how long you use your current smartphone.
