Avatar: The Way of Water review

Finally there is a successor in the Avatar series. Avatar: The Way of Water picks up on the predecessor. Both critics and audiences are very pleased.

Sequel to the first Avatar movie

The Avatar series is set on the jungle planet of Pandora, where a highly sought-after mineral, unobtainium, is mined by large corporations who literally go over corpses to get their hands on Pandora’s rich unobtainium veins. Avatar: The Way of Water takes place on Pandora some 15 years after the end of the first Avatar movie.

The earthly rebel Jake Sully, now imprisoned in his Na’vi body, has had children with his Na’vi lover Neytiri. The clan’s existence is now over due to some dramatic events, and they have to flee to another Na’vi clan who resides on a distant island.

Avatar: The Way of Water, reasonable storyline, very good special effects

While the plot isn’t particularly original, it’s more than made up for by the excellent special FX and spectacular underwater scenes. The character development of the main characters was also praised by many critics.

The cinema audience is even more enthusiastic about the film. Of the budget of between 350 and 400 million dollars, half has already come in as receipts.

Observers within the film industry wonder whether it will be possible to recoup this huge budget, but so far the signs are promising. In that respect it is an old-fashioned good film, which you as an audience can simply enjoy unabashedly.

And with critic and audience ratings of 78% and 94% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, this is a good Christmas movie that’s also great as a family movie.

Trailer with spectacular images
