Are you still waiting for the new generation iPhone SE? Then there is bad news, because it does not seem that Apple will soon release a new cheaper iPhone.

iPhone SE will not appear for the time being
It seems very likely that we will not see a new generation of the iPhone SE for a while. According to rumors, the fourth generation iPhone SE was planned for 2024, but this plan is becoming increasingly unlikely. The cheaper iPhone is reportedly delayed due to technical problems. The new iPhone SE is intended to run on Apple’s own 5G chip for the first time.

In 2019, Apple bought Intel’s modem division for smartphone chips to develop its own 5G modems for the iPhone. For example, Apple’s dependence on Qualcomm, the manufacturer of current processors, must come to an end. It is precisely this own chip that is now (again) causing problems, so that the new generation of iPhone SE is still awaited.
New iPhone SE looks like iPhone 14
The new generation of iPhone SE is rumored to resemble the regular iPhone 14. That would mean that this will be the first iPhone SE with Face ID and without a home button. The current iPhone SE 2022 still works with Touch ID, as we last saw with the iPhone 8 with the regular iPhones. If Face ID also comes to the cheaper iPhone, Apple will say goodbye to the home button.
The iPhone 14 screen is also reportedly coming to the iPhone SE. That means that the phone will have a 6.1-inch OLED display. The iPhone SE 2022 now has a 4.7-inch LCD screen. It is also expected that the iPhone SE will also receive a new chip, the current SE still runs on the A15 Bionic chip. The new generation iPhone SE is therefore a big step forward.
Uncertainty about new cheaper iPhone
With a larger screen and a new processor, the iPhone SE would get a decent update. Due to Apple’s 5G chip, it is now unclear whether a new generation of iPhone SE will appear. It is quite possible that Apple will wait with the release of a new budget iPhone until the company can manufacture the new processor. As a result, we can only expect the iPhone in 2025 at the earliest.

The production problems with the 5G chip will probably not only affect the new generation iPhone SE, but also the iPhone 16. The phone is expected in 2024 and therefore probably does not run on the 5G chip. Apple therefore remains dependent on Qualcomm for the production of the processors with the iPhone 16 as well.
