Are everyone bored of the NFT monkeys?

We hope you had a good day and now we want to give you some exciting information to take with you into the evening. t3n Daily is also available as a newsletter. Here are the topics of the day.

Bored Apes: Are everyone bored of the NFT apes?

They once traded for millions of dollars: the Bored Apes – images of bored apes as NFT. Everyone wanted to be part of the famous Bored Apes Yacht Club, but the once hyped art collection is now only worth a fraction of what it was back then and could become a real losing proposition for collectors. NFT prices have since fallen from $429,000 or 152 ETH to just $52,000.

Justin Bieber’s Bored Apes NFT was once valued at $1.3 million but is now worth just $60,000. The problem: The market for NFT is largely unregulated. The price is determined by supply and demand. In this case, no hype literally means boredom, and therefore no money either.

Apecoin, the cryptocurrency from Yuga Labs, the developer studio behind the Bored Apes, has also lost 93 percent of its value and is at an all-time low.

World premiere: China launches methane rocket into space

SpaceX and Co didn’t stand a chance: China was the first country in the world to launch a methane-powered rocket into space. Chinese private company Landspace has developed the Suzaku-2 Yao rocket, which has successfully lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. According to Chinese state media, the flight went as planned.

The rocket runs on a mixture of methane and oxygen. This is the second attempt to use liquid oxygen methane technology. The first attempt took place at the end of last year, but failed.

Microsoft Office gets a new standard font

After 16 years, the time has finally come: Microsoft Office has a new standard font. Instead of Calibri, the font that has now been burned into everyone, users now see Aptos as the default. Like Helvetica, the sans serif font is based on Swiss typography from the mid-20th century.

However, Aptos is not completely new. In 2021, the font was already integrated into Windows together with fonts such as “Grandview”, “Seaford”, “Skeena” and “Tenorite” and presented as a potential standard font – at that time still under the name “Bierstadt”. After two years of feedback, “Bierstadt” has now established itself as the new standard font.

The change affects all Microsoft Office programs. And don’t worry: Calibri will continue to be available as a selectable font.

Will Hollywood stars soon be replaced by AI clones?

Hollywood’s greed for unfettered rights to the likeness of Hollywood performers is causing a stir in the acting industry. Production companies want to have full-body scans of small actors: inside and use them animated by AI for any project without getting their approval or having to pay them a fee. The actors’ union reacted with horror and joined the scriptwriters’ strike.

This “groundbreaking” proposal would not only cost extras their jobs, but would also hurt budding stars hoping to break into small roles. The impact of using AI for the acting industry would be devastating anyway. It’s also chilling to think that soulless AI clones might eventually replace our favorite big screen stars.

Perseverance discovers evidence of past life on Mars

The Mars rover Perseverance has uncovered new clues during its exploration of the red planet, increasing suspicions that there may have been life on Mars in the past. Analysis of rock samples and data has revealed organic molecules and minerals. The “Sherloc instrument”, which is mounted on the rover’s arm, examined ten different locations and indeed found what it was looking for in all of them.

“Sherloc” uses cameras, spectrometers and lasers to identify minerals and potential biosignatures. While the results suggest that Mars was rich in organic material in the past, it remains unclear whether these materials were biological in origin or formed through geological processes.

Nasa plans to return the collected samples to Earth for further study. However, this represents a technical challenge and will probably not be possible before 2033 at the earliest.
