Are you waiting for Apple’s mixed-reality headset? It is rumored to be released this year, but now an analyst claims that it has been postponed to 2023. You should know this.

Read on after the ad.

It has been rumored for years that Apple is working on both a mixed reality headset and AR glasses. The combined AR/VR headset would come first… at least, this rumor is sticking in the rumor mill. After it first looked like Apple would announce the headset this year, it now seems to have been postponed to 2023.

Apple mixed reality headset delayed to 2023

Apple has been working on the mixed-reality headset for a number of years. However, it is still unclear when the Cupertino company wants to announce the product. Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu is now talking about the headset being delayed to 2023.

In a recent report, Pu mentions that Apple’s headset is slightly delayed and will be announced in the first quarter of 2023. The analyst also estimates that Apple will sell between 1 and 1.5 million units of the headset in the first year. For your perspective, the first Apple Watch also sold 1 million units… on the first day of pre-order at the time. Perhaps this indicates a very high price of the VR glasses.

The chip makes the difference

It is further said that the internally developed chip will be one of the main distinguishing features of Apple’s mixed-reality headset compared to the competitors. The glasses are expected to have more than 10 sensors (including cameras).

A few weeks ago, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple plans to introduce its headset later this year. Ultimately, we will have to wait and see what plans those responsible in Cupertino are pursuing. It’s also conceivable that Apple will announce the mixed-reality headset this year and only launch it next year. This would give developers the opportunity to develop apps for the headphones. That is also the way Apple approached the launch of the Apple Watch at the time.
